Giving and volunteering
Volunteering
Sage colleagues are encouraged to give their time and skills to support their local communities and can take up to two days of paid volunteering leave. In the UK, more than 100 of our colleagues have volunteered over 900 hours to a variety of projects, directly impacting more than 600 beneficiaries.
Disaster response & relief
Sage provides assistance to support disaster relief through donations and matching employee contributions. Spotlights of disaster relief efforts include the following:
War in Ukraine - $10,000 to UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, which helps provide conflict and disaster affected children with access to water, sanitation, nutrition, health, and safety services. An additional $10,000 to support humanitarian relief efforts through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), a UK-based collaboration of 15 charities that respond to crises around the globe.
Afghanistan earthquake - S$4,000 to the Singapore Red Cross to support relief efforts.
Pakistan floods - £10,000 to support families in need of food, clean drinking water, and shelter through the DEC and S$14,000 to the Singapore Red Cross.
West Java earthquake - S$5,000 to the Singapore Red Cross.
Charitable giving
We partner with local and international charities, and our colleagues are encouraged to fundraise, support, and volunteer with them.
Book donations
Sage donated 15,129 books in 2022. They are available to readers in thousands of schools, libraries, universities, refugee camps, prisons, and hospitals. Our books partner, Book Aid International, focuses on supporting the world’s most marginalized people and getting books to the people who need them the most.
Through Books for Schools and Learning, Sage also donated £15,000 to 30 schools or learning organizations nominated by employees with which to purchase books.
Employee donations and fundraising
Sage matches payroll giving to 501(c)(3)s and UK registered charities. In 2022, employees gave $29,493 and £98,423 to charitable causes, totaling $58,986 and £196,846 with Sage’s match.
Local support

In the United States, Sage maintains long-standing and meaningful professional community relationships, including a strong program of support to the local educational community that includes strategic and key donations within the kindergarten to high school sphere in the region where our headquarters is located. Some of the highlights for 2022 included the following:
$61,000 in grants to 61 schools in Ventura County. Each school received a $1,000 grant to build and update its library.
$45,000 to the Conejo Schools Foundation to support student programs at various schools across the district.
School backpacks valued at $27,900 to underserved children benefitting four local organizations: Casa Pacifica, Many Mansions, School on Wheels, and Transition House.
$2,500 scholarships to 10 students who made a positive impact on others, the environment, or those less fortunate. Preference was given to those studying the social sciences realm, and seven of the 10 scholarships went to people of color.
$10,000 to support the Academic Decathlon, Science Fair, Impact II Teaching Awards and Mock Trial, all student competition programs coordinated by the Ventura County Office of Education.
$2,500 to the Ventura County Arts Council’s Poetry Out Loud competition.
$17,000 sponsorship for the Sage Ventura County Spelling Bee, a countywide competition in which the winner can travel to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Some highlights from the UK include the following:
£50,000 annually to charities that work on eradicating poverty or that focus on educational or social projects in the United Kingdom and abroad.
£28,410 to a local charity, The Big House, to support their 10th anniversary celebrations and the appointment of a communications officer, who was also supported with mentoring.
Sage UK employees donated over 60 Easter eggs and other food donations to ARC Foodbank as well £1,237 for the ELBA Toy Appeal at Christmas.

In India, Sage India supported a range of organizations in 2022, with a focus on sustainable development in education and health. Support included the following:
Rs. 1,643,000 of funding to Sage Saathi, a school for underprivileged children that helps them transition to formal education.
Rs. 534,000 for the Equal Opportunity Rural Technical Education Program run by Jan Madhyam, a nonprofit that holds a range of activities to aid child development.
Rs. 486,000 donated to an organization that supports people living with disabilities.
Rs. 400,000 contributed toward the infrastructural needs of End Poverty, a civil society organization that aims to reduce poverty in India.
Rs. 394,000 provided to Lakshay, a nonprofit that aims to address the problems associated with education and health development of underprivileged children.
Education reimbursement program
As an academic and professional publisher, Sage believes that education is intrinsically valuable and encourages its staff and their families to pursue academic, professional, and personal development. In 2022, Sage covered over $60,000 in costs related to degree courses, nondegree courses, and personal interest courses for our colleagues. In addition, Sage paid out over $19,000 in textbook reimbursement for 31 employees and their children.
